DSL baseband modems - guide to implementing DSL in the UKDSL baseband modems - guide to implementing DSL in the UK

If you have offices within a local exchange you could be saving £3000 per year per circuit. Of course, it may be schools, council offices, health centres, hospitals, university campus's - any large site requiring networks to be connected together.

Using our DSL baseband modems coupled with British Telecom EPS8 or 9 circuits (*scroll to the bottom for more information), Mutek will help you with a cost-effective solution that can literally save you thousands of pounds every year, compared with the use of traditional leased Line services.

We will provide you with FREE pre and post-sales advice and guidance:
- helping you identify the feasibility of the baseband circuit solution,
- advising on the appropriate baseband modems and circuit for your application,
- providing telephone advice and guidance on the installation and configuration of the units we supply.

2.3Mbps G.SHDSL Ethernet Bridge / Router

The CT-2300A is an incredible value Ethernet bridge / router that enables users to create high speed data links across a two wire circuit, either privately owned or a leased BT EPS-9 (two wire) circuit. The CT-2300A is an all in one solution for connecting networks in different buildings and utilises the very latest G.SHDSL line coding for superior performance with speeds up to 2.3Mbps. All at half the price you expected!

The CT-2300A has a single 10/100Mbps Ethernet port for direct attachment to the LAN and ships as standard with an integrated bridge / router. Advanced features are available within the management software that allows network managers to tailor the configuration to their own specifications. Alternatively, one CT-2300A can be set to ‘Master’, the units can then be connected and they’re ready for operation.
A range of management interfaces are made available to facilitate configuration and monitoring, including web based management, SNMP, Telnet and a VT-100 Com port.

In summary the CT-2300A provides the very latest in DSL technology offering a wide range of routing and bridging features coupled with high speeds over a single pair of copper cabling.

Features :
  • 2.3Mbps Operation over a single pair of copper (EPS9)
  • Auto down speeding in 64kbps increments in the presence of line degredation or increased distance.
  • Configuration via - HTTP, Telnet, VT-100, SNMP
  • Fully G.SHDSL Compatible (G.991.2 A / B)
  • Full ATM Protocol stack over SHDSL
  • Built in DHCP server.

2.3Mbps G.SHDSL Ethernet Bridge / Router

4.6Mbps G.SHDSL Ethernet Bridge / Router4.6Mbps G.SHDSL Ethernet Bridge / Router

The CT4604A is the big brother of the CT-2300A above and operates at twice the speed over a four wire circuit. With speeds up to 4.6Mbps the CT-4604A utilises the latest in G.SHDSL line coding. The unit combines DSL technology with an IP router and an integrated 4 port 10/100Mbps Ethernet switch. DSL connections are made using a 4 wire circuit such as those meeting the BT EPS-8 standard.

The 4 port Ethernet switch allows multiple Ethernet devices to be connected to the modem. Each port on the switch can auto negotiate its speed and duplex mode, alternatively the user may 'hard set' these parameters if necessary. The CT-4604A can function as a transparent learning bridge that will pass extended length Ethernet frames such as those used in VLAN tagging applications. Routing functions can be enabled to route IP traffic using RIP or static routes.

Configuration and management of the unit is provisioned via a number of interfaces including Web based management, Telnet and an RS232 console port. The unit can also be configured as a DHCP server for easy IP address management. In summary the CT-4604A enables the connection of remote LAN's using ordinary telephone cable at speeds up to 4.6Mbps in either a bridged or routed environment.

Features :
  • 4.6Mbps Operation over 2 pairs of copper (EPS8)
  • Built in bridge / router and 4 port Ethernet switch
  • Fully G.SHDSL Compatible (G.991.2 A / B)
  • Full ATM Protocol stack over SHDSL
  • Configuration via - Web (HTTP), Telnet, VT-100

Cut annual line costs - link PABXs over your existing network infrastructure

If you have infrastructure in place to link office networks, such as baseband or leased line circuits, you can carry your voice traffic over the same circuit and save the cost of an annual line lease.

If you have one circuit for data and one for voice, save a line cost and combine them onto one circuit with a pair of these units.

The IP-M shown here, when connected to a PABX (G.703, Coax or RJ45) packetises G.703 voice data into IP for onward connection across the IP network. A second IP-M at a remote location converts the packets back to G.703 data for connection to a second PABX. The unit also accepts a local Lan connection.

* EPS8 and 9 circuits

EPS8 and EPS9 are simple copper pairs that BT provide between your sites - EPS8 is a two pair circuit and EPS9 is a single pair. They are routed through the local exchange so both sites must be on the same exchange.

Using the baseband modems in this section an EPS9 circuit will give speeds up to 2.3Mbps (in each direction simultaneously), and on an EPS8 circuit 4.6Mbps can be achieved. As a guide, maximum bandwidth can be expected with circuits up to 4Km long. Between 4Km and 6Km the units will negotiate the best possible speed, downshifting in 256K bps increments as necessary.
