Questions and answers

Q - How far can the mains network devices send?
A - The units are specified to work over 200 metres of mains wiring but may go further in practice.

Q - How fast are they?
A - The units are specified at 14Mbps, in other words faster than 10BaseT and a lot faster than broadband. In practice the speed may be degraded by the quality of the mains wiring or the presence of electrical noise caused by other devices on the mains network such as power tools and washing machines. The speed will automatically reduce to cope with this, dropping in increments down to a low of 0.9Mbps - still plenty fast enough for internet access.

Q - Privacy and security - will next door see my data?
A - Not if you don't want them to - you can setup security measures to ensure your network data is private. If you are hoping to allow the neighbours to share your network bear in mind that you cannot connect from one mains phase to another. See more information on mains phases in section 'Coping with different phases of the AC mains'.

Q - How many mains network adaptors do I need?
A - One per computer and network connected device at most. You can use mains network adaptors to link sections of normally wired or Wi-Fi networks together. Each mains adaptor can be shared by up to 15 IP numbers.

Q - Can I use them with Linux or Apple computers.
A- Yes. The adaptors are driverless and can be used with any device with an IP number. A setup tool is needed once to assign a network encryption key. Setup tools for Linux and MAC OSX are provided.

Q - Can I use them with games consoles such as Xbox to play multi-player games.
A - Yes. the ethernet adaptors do not require drivers to be loaded onto the networked device. Instructions for installing for Xbox and Mobotix cameras are included.

Q - How secure is my data?
A- You can set up virtual private networks, all sharing the same premise mains wiring but using security key coding to ensure that the members of different private networks cannot see each others data or computer resources.

Q - Will the adapter resume working automatically after a power failure?
A - Corinex Intelligent PowerNet Adapters are operational when the connected computers are rebooted and the power is back on. If there is a problem, unplug the adapter and plug it back into the mains socket.

Q - Is there any cross talk or interference issue when using Corinex Intelligent PowerNet Adapters?
A - The mains adaptors cause no interference with other cards and/or system in the computer. They use OFDM technology, which reduces influences coming from other devices connected to the mains wiring system.

Q - I have PCs installed on different floors of the building, can I use mains networking adaptors to network them together?
A - The Corinex adaptors work on the same electric phase - the same physical line. If the mains wiring between the two outlets used for communications are connected with each other and the maximum distance is about 200m, they work fine.

Q - Are the adaptors CE approved?
A - The Corinex adapters are CE and FCC approved.
