 | 85Mps Ethernet over mains plug top adaptor
This brand new device takes the Homeplug 1.0 standard and adds Turbo mode to allow speeds of up to 85Mbps on normal UK mains wiring. The new 85Mbps devices are compatible with 14Mbps devices, can share the same mains wiring and inter-operate with each other.
What does this extra speed mean in practice? In my old stone cottage I use an ethernet over mains link from a study upstairs to the living room downstairs. As usual the cottage has a horrendous mix of old and new wiring and the thick stone walls means Wi-Fi works in some places, some times. With 14Mbps ethernet over mains units I get 8-10Mbps in practice and with the new 85Mbps units I get 60-65Mbps - at least a five times improvement and much faster than Wi-Fi promises (but rarely seems to achieve).
