Full featured USB to RS232 converter
A very low cost way to convert a USB port into a standard 9 pin COM port so you can plug serial devices, like a GPS or PDA, into your USB port. This is a great way, perhaps the only way, to connect these devices to the new generation of laptops that do not have a serial port.
The cable is long enough so your new standard DB-9 COM port can sit on your desktop. It is automatically configured as COM(n) where n is an unused COM port number (more about port numbering below). You can add several devices on unused COM ports to your PC, no more swapping, re-configuring drivers, and no IRQ problems. Add as many extra COM ports as you like and once you have set the COM port number the converter will remember it.
Uniquely, this converter supports all the important RS232 control signals, we plugged a modem (with hardware handshake enabled) into one and plugged it into a 4-port hub and then into a 3-port hub and then into one of the USB ports of a PC. It became COM3, W2K found it and configured it, and it just worked! No messing around for hours.
